Island throughout history

Throughout history, islands have played important roles in trade, exploration, and warfare. The ancient Greeks, for example, colonized numerous islands in the Mediterranean Sea and used them as trading posts and military bases. The island of Sicily was a key strategic location throughout much of European history, with the Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, and others fighting over control of the island.

Islands have also become popular tourist destinations, with millions of people traveling to places like Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Maldives every year.
